Why You Should Start Blogging

July 31st, 2009 by admin

If you love writing then one of the first steps you should take is to setup your own blog. This is a great way to get into writing online and you can setup your own blog for free. The other major advantage is that you will have an online reference that you can show to potential employers that are willing to pay for writing jobs.

To get started, you can sign up for a free account at blogger.com. This is one the best free blogging services around and the interface is extremely easy to use and setup.

Here are some more tips for starting your own blog.

  1. Start a blog on a topic in which you have plenty of expertise. The more knowledge you have on a topic, the more likely you will build a large userbase. From here the sky is the limit.
  2. Pick a blog topic that is not too broad. We recommend that you write about a niche that you are familiar with. If your topic is too broad you won’t get specific interest and it will be harder to build a following.
  3. Update your blog on a regular basis. You need to keep your blog fresh and updated. The search engines prefer sites that have regular updates and they will rank you better for it.
  4. Participate on other blogs similar to yours. Once you get started you should try and obtain links from other blogs that are similar to your subject matter.
  5. Be patient. It can take time to develop a good blog, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Those are just a few tips to help you get started. Remember to write high quality content. Once your blog becomes established, you will be able to earn income from advertising on your blog or by selling your writing skills. Stay tuned.

What is Copy Editing

February 4th, 2009 by admin

Copy editing (also copy-editing and copyediting) is the work that an editor does to improve the formatting, style, and accuracy of a manuscript. Copy (as a noun) refers to written or typewritten text for typesetting, printing, or publication. Copy editing is done prior to the work of proofreaders, who handle documents before final publication.

In the United States and Canada, an editor who does this is a copy editor, and an organization’s highest-ranking copy editor, or the supervising editor of a group of copy editors, may be known as the copy chief.

In book publishing in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world that follow UK nomenclature, the term copy editor is used, but in newspaper and magazine publishing, the term is sub-editor, commonly shortened to sub (”to sub” is the verb form). The senior sub-editor on a title is referred to as the chief sub-editor.

There is no universal form for the job or job title; it is often written as one word (copyediting) or with a hyphen (copy-editing); the hyphenated form is especially common in Britain. Similarly, the term copy editor may be spelled either as one word, two words, or as a hyphenated compound term.

What is a Freelancer

December 11th, 2008 by admin

A freelancer, freelance worker, or freelance is a person who pursues a profession without a long-term commitment to any one employer. The term “freelance” was first coined by Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) in his well-known historical romance Ivanhoe to describe a “medieval mercenary warrior” (or “free-lance”).

The phrase later transitioned to a figurative noun around the 1860s and was then officially recognized as a verb in 1903 by various authorities in etymology such as the Oxford English Dictionary. Only in modern times has the term morphed from a noun (a freelance) into an adjective (a freelance journalist), various verb forms (a journalist who freelances) and an adverb (she worked freelance), and then from the verb into the derived noun form “freelancer”.

Fields where freelancing is especially common include journalism and other forms of writing, copywriting, computer programming and graphic design, consulting, and many other professional and creative services.

Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts, while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients.

Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes.

Freelance Writing Online

December 3rd, 2008 by admin

Freelance writing jobs are not as daunting as they used to be. Offers can range from anything and everything under the sun. In fact, there are plenty of people looking out for writers right this very moment.

We have setup people with online jobs in hundred of different niches, some of these include;

  • Online marketing
  • Baseball
  • Childrens stories
  • Pig farming
  • Gardening
  • Plus thousands more..

And if you hang around long enough, you’ll learn how to avoid basic mistakes and spot golden opportunities. Here are some helpful tips to succeed in freelance writing.

Surf the Net and Be Observant

You can start making money by typing freelance writing jobs on your favorite search engine. As impossible as it is to believe, that’s how easy it is. Of course, most of the links will then lead you through blogs, forums and Web sites.

As mentioned earlier, topics to write about can range from anything and everything. It could be something as common as travel, or something as technical as manipulating graphics.

Stick to What You Know

Aside from their obvious popularity, blog articles are also easier to write. They’re less formal and use a more easygoing tone.

For a beginner, it’s the best place to start your career as a freelance writer. If you’re fond of cooking, you can look for a blog that focuses on that subject. If you’re into marketing, there are hundreds of blogs out there which deal with your interest.

Accept Payments

Payment transactions are usually done online. You’ll need to set up an account at a credible online money transferring company or payment processor in order to receive your money.

Personally, all I earn from my freelance writing jobs are wired through Paypal. It’s easily one of the most popular and credible companies out there. If your country is not included in Paypal’s list, another good alternative would be 2Checkout.

Freelance writing jobs may seem easy—and they are—but they also require proper working habits. You might think that it’s okay to slack off since you don’t exactly have a superior watching over you like a hawk; however, how you work can determine where your next paycheck comes from.

If your employer decides that he or she likes your writing style as well as your work habits, you’ll be the first person he or she will call up the next time a project pops out.
